Maximum indexes of 31.7 for men and 32.0 for women are required to play. These indexes have been calculated from the white tees for men at Granada and gold tees for women at Balboa which gives them a 36 handicap. If during the season a members handicap goes above the maximum they may continue to play but will only receive a maximum of 36 strokes.
RAIN OUT POLICY - If an event is cancelled due to weather, after the event has begun, only flights that have completed the same number of holes will receive prize money for that day.
Play the ball up, may move ball 12" (club length in scrambles) in like conditions.
Putts are given within 12"
Unless otherwise noted, the penalty for breach of a Local Rule or Condition is: Stroke Play – Two Strokes
Occasional local abnormal conditions might interfere with fair play. The Events Chairman may on the day of play invoke the “lift, clean, and place” rule as follows: If a player’s ball lies on a closely mown area through the green the player may mark, lift and clean his ball without penalty. Before lifting he must mark the position of the ball. The player must then place the ball on a spot within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard or on a putting green.
Through the green, a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground, other than sand, may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.
Distance measuring devices will be allowed as long as they measure DISTANCE ONLY! The use of devices that gauge or measure other conditions that might affect play (e.g., wind, elevation, or gradient) is not permitted.
Rock areas in the fairway and rough are considered to be “ground under repair” and relief is available if the ball lies in or touches the rocky area or the rocky area interferes with the area of intended swing. Relief for stance alone is not available. The player may lift the ball and drop it within one club-length of the nearest point of relief.
Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions.
All flowerbeds are deemed to be “ground under repair” from which play is prohibited. If the player’s ball lies in the area, or if it interferes with the player’s stance or the area of intended swing, the player must take relief.
Protection of young trees – If such a tree or the guy wires supporting the tree interferes with a player’s stance or the area of his intended swing, the ball must be lifted, without penalty, and dropped in accordance with the procedure (Immovable Obstruction).
Pine straw is a “loose impediment” unless it is used as mulch in a flowerbed in which case it is considered to be part of the flowerbed.
Immovable Obstruction (sprinkler head, drain, valve cover, etc) Close to the Putting Green – Relief from interference by an immovable obstruction may be taken. In Addition, if a ball lies off the putting green but not in a hazard and an immovable obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club-lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follow: The ball must be lifted and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay that (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids intervention and (c) is not in a hazard or on a putting green. The ball may be cleaned when lifted.
The culvert and rocks in the drainage ditch on De Soto #15 (right side of fairway approximately 150 yards from the green) are immovable obstructions and the player is entitled to relief without penalty and a ball dropped in accordance with the procedure (Immovable Obstruction). The ball may be considered to be lost in the obstruction and does not have to be retrieved.
In case of threating weather (thunder or lightening) use your best judgement, mark your ball and take shelter.
PACE OF PLAY RULE:
PACE PACE OF PLAY: Play READY golf and be READY to play without delay. Continuous putting is encouraged to speed up play. Groups should be in position and/or in their alloted time according to the times on your scorecard. If you are out of the hole, pick-up (if your score does not need to be used).
If there are problems with slow play, the group will be asked to please pick up the pace of play. (Times should be evaluated according to the Course Time Sheet, times on your score card and the conditions.)
a. If the group has not closed the time gap after two or three holes, they will be instructed to do the following according to the USGA Rules of Golf: Rule 6-7 Undue Delay; Slow play.
On the next par 4 or 5, the group will start from the 150 yard marker.
- Par 4 holes each will be hitting their 3rd shot (Includes a one stroke penalty)
- Par 5 holes each will be hitting their 4th shot (Includes a one stroke penalty)
b. If you feel you and your partner were not the cause of slow play and wish to appeal the penalty, this may be done by contacting the CGG Committee by phone or e-mail no later than 7:00 p.m. the evening of your round.
POP Helpful Hints:
In a CONTINUING effort to speed up pace of play, each group is encouraged to do the following.
1. Take 3 clulbs with you if it is cart path only on that day.
2. Leap Frog carts when assigned to paths only, move cart ahead and partner walks forward to cart after hitting their ball.
3. Get in the cart immediately after hitting, put your clubs in the bag when you stop for the next player to hit.
4. Mark the scores down at the next tee box-not at the green.
5. Pull your cart around to the back of the green BEFORE you putt.
6. Please turn off cell phones before teeing off.
7. Please be aware and be courteous to the rest of your foursome.
8. If it is a team event (and your ball is not going to count) please pick up if you are out of the hole!
Several references on procedure when golf ball is on a bridge over a water hazard (or lateral).
Definitions
Water Hazard
All ground or water within the margin of a water hazard is part of the water hazard. The margin of a water hazard extends vertically upward and downward.
Rule 13 -4
Note:
At any time, including at address or in the backward movement for the stroke, the player may touch with a club or otherwise any obstruction, etc...
Decision 13-4/30 Grounding club on bridge in water hazard
Q. A player's ball lies on a bridge over a water hazard within the margins of the hazard when extended upward. May the player ground her club?
A. Yes. A bridge is an obstruction. In a hazard, the club may touch an obstruction at address or in the backward movement for the stroke- see note under Rule 13-4. Touching the bridge prior to address is also permissible, since an obstruction in a water hazard is not "ground in the hazard." This applies even if the bridge has been declared an integral part of the course.
Eds. note:
If relief is the choice, follow Rule 26-1 Relief for Ball in Water Hazard

Q. How do I determine where the ball must be dropped when proceeding under option b in Rule 26-1? Is it along the line of flight the ball took to get to the hazard? |
A. No. Under the Rules of Golf, dropping the ball on the "line of flight" is never an option, however, it is often confused with the concept provided in Rule 26-1b. Under Rule 26-1b, when taking relief from a water hazard, a player may drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped. In determining this line, the player must first determine where the ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard. Once this point is determined, the player should draw an imaginary line from this point to the hole. The player may then drop the ball anywhere along an extension of this line behind the water hazard (Decision 26-1/1.5). Please refer to Point D in Decision 26-1/15, for an illustration. |
